Word on the Street is a bilingual online publication, designed to give youth in communities of color the opportunity to share their power, voices, gifts and talents. We are looking for young people who are passionate about their community, to help others share their perspectives through art, and self-expression. In the process, youth will develop as leaders, display their own creativity, and work towards breaking down barriers in people’s lives. During our first year, our founding Squad of 16 teens developed the mission, vision and structure for the program, created videos, art, the website, reviewed submissions from around the country, and planned and hosted community events to celebrate young artists.
Even if you don’t consider yourself an artist, if you want to learn about working with websites, reading and editing publications, doing interviews, marketing, or how to be a part of a creative and fun team–this is an opportunity for you to share your gifts, and positively impact communities of color.
